Ingredients
For 1 serving
- 4 slices of white sandwich bread (about 100 g / 3.5 oz)
- 120 g (½ cup) liquid egg whites, or the whites of about 4 eggs
- 25 g (just under 1 scoop) vanilla or unflavored whey protein powder
- ½ tsp vanilla extract
- 100 g (⅔ cup) mixed berries
- 1 tsp (5 g) butter for the pan
- Zero-calorie syrup (optional)
Instructions
- 1Blend the egg whites, protein powder and vanilla until smooth, then pour the mixture into a shallow dish.
- 2Dip each slice of bread into the mixture and let it soak for a few seconds on each side, so it absorbs as much as possible.
- 3Melt the butter in a nonstick pan over medium heat and cook the slices for 2 to 3 minutes per side, until golden and set.
- 4Cut each slice in half, top with the berries and drizzle with zero-calorie syrup if you like.
Tips
- Use slightly stale bread. It soaks up more of the batter without falling apart.
- Pour any leftover batter over the slices in the pan, so none of the protein goes to waste.
- Whole-wheat bread works just as well and adds a few grams of fiber.
